a new blog

So not that there are many followers/readers out there, but for those of you who do- I have another blog for you to check out.  I helped my friend Leigh Ann make a blog for her FANTASTIC applique and monogramming work.  She does all of the cute things you see Emily wearing. fun weekend

We had such a fun weekend.  My Aunt Ann was in town so Emily and I went to dinner with she and Mom Friday night at El Mezcal.  Emily has started pointing to things she wants and she kept "Gammy" on her toes with the water at dinner!  Saturday we had Kindermusik and let me tell you our girl digs it.  I am going to have to take better pictures or get a video of her next week if they pull the drums back out. Sean an I were laughing at her and how much she enjoyed bouncing up and down while beating on the drums. We had family lunch at Panera and then off to run some errands.  We met a big group of friends at Newks for dinner.  I think we spared most dinnergoers by going early at 5pm.  we had 7 children- all 4 and younger and 13 adults!  It was chaos but so much fun! I hope we keep that outing up every other month as planned. It was really nice to catch up with everyone. Sunday was a lazy day spent playing and walking and doing chores around the house.

SACKED OUT after a busy day- in my new car seat

First Mardi Gras

We took our sweet girl on her first "real" road trip down to New Orleans to see our friends the Galjours for the first weekend of Mardi Gras.  WHAT? you ask- a baby at Mardi Gras???  Three babies actually people- and they were awesome.

Friday morning we set out just in time for her mid morning nap.  She was a trooper in the car! She slept pretty much all the way down and all the way back with an hour stop for lunch both ways. Could not ask for more.  She did NOT sleep as well in in the pack and play, at the hotel in the same room with her mommy and Daddy...but I'll take quiet in the car any day. 

We got to town about 4:30 and over to the Galjours house about 6.  They made us some yummy gumbo and had bought a king cake for our visit...and some yummy Abita beer. The kiddos got acuainted over a bag of Mardi Gras beads that Gaston so graciously shared while the adults did some catching up! We last hung out with them the weekend we found out we were pregnant with Emily.  It was so fun watching the kiddos play. Gaston was SUPER sweet with Emily. He kept hugging her and touching her little face- while his mommy kept reminding him to be gentle b/c she is so little!!  I told her Em is used to playing with boys at daycare. She seemed to really enjoy playing with the boys.  And she loved the beads!

Saturday we all got Emily ready in her spiffy new shirt Mrs Kelly had made her the night before and off we went.  We tried to go have lunch at the River Shack- a local place by the river.  Did. not. work. out. They were packed and the service was really slow - so we moved on to Frankie and Johnny's. Emily got her first look- not taste of a muffelatta.  It was as big as her head!!!  We were going to hit one of the afternoon parades but all three kiddos sacked out in the car so we headed back to the Galjours to chill til the next one.  We bundled up the kiddos and headed out to the Sparta and Pygmalion parades.  It was COLD!  Emily seemed to be tired and only lasted in the stroller with Olliver until about 8. We took her home and after some protest, she passed out. 

Sunday was going to be a long day.  We had grandstand tickets for two parades. the Krewe of Carrolton and the King Arthur.  It was a beautiful day if a little chilly. We all got dressed accordingly. I put Em in fleece pants and a long sleeved onsie under her cute Mardi Gras longall, hat and coat- and sun hat! She seemed toasty.  Even though she had no clue what was going on- she seemed to enjoy looking at everything. All the people, the floats. The marching bands, the beads.  The kids were bead MAGNETS!  I've never seen that many beads in one place except on a float!  We only had three minor incidents. Twice Emily took a strand of beads to the face that her Daddy or I didn't intercept- and I got a whole bag of beads to the forehead at one point!! They were throwing bags of beads and stuffed animals at the kids. It was crazy.  After 5 hours- (yes these kids were troopers!) of parades, we were done and headed to dinner.  One of my favorite restaurants back home in Louisiana was Superior Grill- a FANTASTIC mexican place. There are only 4 of them and I go every chance I have to get near one.  Dinner was sooo yummy and we were so tired. We called it an early nights Said our goodbyes to the sweet and always fun Galjours. Promised to come back again. Made them promise to come for Italian Fest this summer. Went back to the hotel and crashed. 

We had a fantastic time with our friends and our sweet child was a road warrior!

MacDermants and Galjours

9 Months

Waaaay back on January 29th, Emily was 9 months old!  Eighteen short months ago we were finding out about her! Crazy! She has been a bundle of activity lately. She is doing and learning so many new things. It seems to come in waves. We had our check up the other day. It was supposed to be a no shots checkup but because it's flu season...and she is so small...we had to get part two of our flu shot. BOO! Emily is doing great.  She is:

• 17 pounds, 4.5 oz - 26th percentile
• 28.5 inches long- 86th percentile
• head circumference-
• she crawled for the first time last week 
• she can high "five" you
• she has mastered clapping- and likes it
• she is waving mostly at the appropriate times
• she is "talking" more and more and has tone and volume now
• she loves the big girl bath and would stay in there all night
• She is starting to pull up- has not quite figure out the leg thing. they are too far apart for her to stand up well
• she will eat ANYTHING you put in front of her
• She can't get enough of the baby in the mirror - she squeals and gloms the mirror- a lot!
• We have had to lower the crib all the way now as a result of the pulling up
• She loves Lily- and Lily's toys, and every speck of dust or paper or crap that is on the floor. I think I might have to vacuum everyday now
• She loves to "play" her instruments. Shakers and bells and drumming the leather pillow or chair- even your leg will do when she wants to make music
• she loves to "fly" or be held upside down or swoop up and down or any of the above.
• She is *kind* of having some separation anxiety at times - others not so much
• she is a bit of a Mama's girl right now. If she's cranky and I'm in the room, she pretty much wants Mama. I am sure that will change soon enough but right now it's what she wants.
• oh and Peekaboo!  she gets it now and thinks it is HIlarious
• she is getting her new big girl car seat. We plan to keep her facing backwards until she is two - or as long as possible but she's outgrown (in length) the infant carrier.
  
  

  

  
  

  

  
  

  

  
  

  

We are a go...Emily is crawling

The last few weeks, Emily has been trying and trying to put the pieces together to crawl. We knew it was only a matter of time before she did. The last little thing was that bottom leg. It would get stuck. Either way she tried to go, that bottom leg would get stuck underneath her and she would get frustrated and sit back up. We've tried helping, we've tried showing her how it's done. We knew she would figure it out in her own time.

I told someone not too long ago, that I thought she would crawl after Lily. That Lily would walk in front of her and she would take off. Last week, I was playing with Emily right before her Daddy got home from work and she was eyeing Lily- so I thought. It was actually Lily's toy- her gross "lovie" for lack of a better term that she chews on to go to sleep. Emily saw it- and she's reached for it before and I pick it up and throw it onto Lily's bed or just away from Emily's reach. Not this day- she saw it, got up on all fours- correctly now and one, two - she moved...pause. One two- she moved some more- she did it! she reached over and grabbed that sunshine!! and I got it on video!! YAY MAMA

Sean walked in the door a few minutes later and I told him what she'd done and put her on the floor toward him- and she did it again- only a little furthur! She DID IT! we laughed and clapped (and yes, I cried a little). This is exciting stuff people!

Now a few short days later- she is crawling everywhere. Still not with lightning speed but very well. We are in trouble!!! (and so is Lily).

our Super week

Our Superbowl week was UP: Crawling, clapping, eating new foods, stealing dog toys, pulling up, "talking" up a storm,  the SUPERBOWL (go Eli)!

and DOWN: Emily has had her 3rd ear infection, 9 month checkup, a stomach bug- that she then gave her Nana and her Mommy (UGH). STILL cutting a tooth ?! maybe- because her sleep has been weird to say the least.

But every week- every DAY with our precious wonder is SUPER. Super exciting, super funny, super exhausting, and full of love.

Our girl loves to eat. Loves it I tell ya!  I know I've shared pics of her eating peas and cereal and such. but man- the girl will eat anything you put in front of her (and try to eat many things she shouldn't)!  Well poor Lily...she has been waiting. and waiting. and waiting for Emily to drop her some goodies. This rarely happens though because our girl has gotten so good with her little fingers and pincer grasp that she rarely misses and when she does, it usually ends down her bib and in her own lap. And still Lily sits patiently waiting. 
One day sweet pooch, there will be food thrown onto the floor- on purpose I am sure- and you will get your just rewards.  Until then, Lil will have to be happy with the tiny few peas or puffs or bites of chicken that fall off of Emily as we pick her up from her high chair.
